Choose the right Wii game and have more fun!
Everyone who owns a Wii gaming console knows how important it is to choose the right game. If the game is for yourself there is no problem, as you know exactly what type of interaction you are looking for, but if you are trying to buy a gift, you may want to start off with a little research before heading to the store, or placing your online order.
There are many video game genres, stretching from science fiction and action, to sports, car racing and music. When shopping for someone else keep this in mind, as there is indeed quite a bit of difference between the action packed ‘Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen,’ which is based on the equally thrilling movie, and the ‘Mario’ series, which are more geared towards a younger audience. ‘Mario Kart’ and ‘Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter games,’ for example, refrain from violence and revolve around wholesome, competitive fun, rather than battling gruesome enemies.
Whenever buying Wii Games – especially for someone else -, ask yourself the following questions:
- Which genre is preferred? Do you need action, mystery, fighting, life training, sports, fitness, racing, role-playing, puzzles, board games, music, or strategy? Some Wii games were designed to spruce up boring parties.
- Is it age appropriate? Parents may become quite agitated if you hand their kids a game that is too violent. Therefore, opt for games, such as ‘Super Monkey Ball Step & Roll’, ‘Spongebob's Truth or Square,’ or ‘Super Monkey Ball Step & Roll’, for younger gamers.
- How many people will be playing? It is important to know if the gamer will be playing alone, or often invites friends over. If this is a combined family gift, it may be wise to stick to games with multiple player settings. Family favorites are: ‘Game Party 3,’’Family Game Night,’ ‘Monopoly Here and Now Worldwide Edition,’ or ‘Wii Music.’
- What kind of controller is required? A variety of wireless controllers are compatible with Wii software and technology. Depending on the game you choose, you may require, for instance, a classic controller, a GameCube, Nunchuk, a balance board, a steering wheel, or guitar.
- Can other accessories be useful? Although standard Wii controllers work fine, some games are more fun with a different set of tools. Star Wars fans do not mind fighting their battles with a ‘Powerwave Laser Sword,’ while those who enjoy a good match of tennis will definitely improve their game if they can play with a ‘Powerwave Tennis Racquet’. Aside from specialized controllers, Wii console owners may also need speakers, microphones, a charge station, wireless sensor bars, remote wrist straps, etc. An ‘Extraction Fan’ can assist the existing Wii Fans in preventing the console to overheat. It will also extend the life span of the Wii console.
- What is the delivery time? If you are ordering online, you need to know when to expect your “Lego Star Wars Saga,’ ‘New Super Mario Bros,’ or ‘Wii Sports Resort & Motion Plus,’ because you do not want to arrive at the party empty-handed. Shipping fees should also be competitive.
- How is customer support? It is important to review customer support and return policies, when you are buying products online. Despite your research, it may still happen that your game is a duplicate, or the recipient does not like it.
Always consider why you are buying the game. If it is for yourself, there is no need to wrap your purchase, but if you want to surprise your best friend with ‘Guitar Hero World Tour,’ ‘Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess,’ or ‘Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince,’ make sure your gift is presented in a decorative box, and do not forget to add a note. After all your efforts, you do not want your gift to get lost in the many presents that arrive at large birthday parties, weddings, anniversaries, graduation celebrations, Christmas gift exchanges, or any festivity with lots of guests.
